Chinese Poet Cao Shui Visited the Kazakhstan Writers Association
On August 1st, Chinese poet Cao Shui visited the Kazakhstan Writers Association in Almaty and was warmly received by Mr. Urugbek Yesdaulet, the president of the Kazakhstan Writers Association, a famous poet, playwright, and translator. Cao Shui stopped by when he was in Türkiye to attend the 22nd Homer International Poetry Festival and the premiere of Cao Shui’s poetry collection Listening to the Heartbeat of the World in Istanbul in Türkiye.
On that day, the Chairman of the Kazakhstan Writers Association, Urugbek, warmly welcomed the arrival of Chinese poet Cao Shui, leading him to visit the National Center Museum and systematically introducing the history and culture of Kazakhstan. Urugbek introduced the history of Almaty, which was once the old capital of Kazakhstan and is still the largest city in Kazakhstan. He introduced the three thousand year history of Kazakhstan, from the Stone Age to its independent establishment. Kazakhstan is also a multi-ethnic country with 140 ethnic groups. He introduced the cultures of ten major ethnic groups. He introduced Kazakhstan’s aerospace industry. Starting in 1955, the former Soviet Union built the world’s first and largest Baikonur Space Center. He concluded by stating that Kazakhstan is a necessary route along the Silk Road, and China and Kazakhstan have a history of two thousand years of communication. He hopes to strengthen cultural and literary exchanges between the two countries in the future.
After the visit, Urugbek invited Cao Shui to have lunch, taste the traditional Kazakh cuisine “Bishbamark” made from horse meat, and introduce Kazakhstan’s nomadic culture. Urugbek presented Cao Shui with his latest poetry collection, and Cao Shui returned the poetry collection “Lyrics of the Tower of Babel”. When they talked about exchanging between the Chinese Writers’ Association and the Kazakhstan Writers’ Association, Urugbek displayed photos of his two visits to China and was received by Tie Ning, the Chairman of the Chinese Writers’ Association. His works have been translated and published in newspapers such as the “Literature and Art Daily”. He has close contacts with Akbar Mijiti, famous Chinese Kazakh writers and former editor in chief of “Chinese Writers”. Not long ago, Cao Shui translated the works of multiple Kazakh poets, including Urugbek, and published them in the People’s Daily Overseas Cooperation Edition (New Zealand) edited by Christine Peiying. As a result, they established extensive literary exchanges. Urugbek also exchanged poetic and dramatic techniques with Cao Shui.
In the afternoon, Urugbek led Cao Shui to visit the Kazakhstan Writers Association and the World Turkic Language Writers Association. Urugbek is an outstanding poet, playwright, and translator in Kazakhstan, and has published dozens of books. He is a well-known writer in Kazakhstan. He has won multiple international and domestic awards such as the National Award of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and currently also serves as the President of the World Turkic Language Writers Association. Urugbek is familiar with the works of Chinese writers such as Tie Ning, Mo Yan, and Chi Zijian. Cao Shui also spoke of his admiration for the talented Kazakh poet Maraltay, who loved his excellent poetry from a young age.
Some of Cao’s poems have been translated into Kazakh and Russian, and Urugbek also praised him as a representive poet of new generation, praising his poems wonderful, calling himself has a “remarkable poet” and hopes that he will create even greater works in the future to influence the entire world. Cao Shui is one of the representative poets of the post-80s generation in China. In recent years, he has participated in a series of international activities, such as the Medellin International Poetry Festival, the Krisya International Poetry Festival in India, the Havana International Poetry Festival in Cuba, and the International Writing Plan of the China Writers Association. His works have been translated into more than 30 languages, including English, French, Russian, Indian, Polish, Danish, Italian, Spanish, and Turkish, etc. There are more than 30 famous poets writing comments in the international poetry world, renowned as a representative poet of the “young generation leading the new world” by the outstanding Indian poet Ratti Saxena. He also translated three books, including “The Song of the Dreamland”. He is a poet with international reputation and is known as the “International Cao” in the poetry world. He writes poetry, novels, fairy tales, as well as film and TV series scripts. He has published more than 40 books, including poetry collections such as “The Epic of the Eurasian Continent”, novels such as “The Secret History of Kunlun”, literature collections such as “The Animal Kingdom of Kekexili”, fairy tales such as “The Princess Snow Leopard”and created over 100 film and television scripts such as “The Peacock King”. He also founded the Great Poetry School, initiated the “Cao-Yi Controversy” in the literary world, advocated for the DramatizeNovel Movement, and the Film Poetry Movement, which had a wide influence in the literary world. In recent years, Cao Shui has won more than 50 literary and artistic awards at home and abroad, including the First Chinese Young Poet Award, the 7th Chinese Long Poetry Award, the “Literary Star” of the 5th Qinghai Youth Literature Award, the 4th Cao Yu Cup Script Award, the Apolo Dionysus Poetry Award of the 8th Rome Contemporary International Academy of Poetry and Art Award, and the 2021 Russian Golden Knight Award. His works have gained dual recognition from the literary world and the market. He is considered one of the representative writers of the post-80s generation in China.
At last, Urugbek gave Cao Shui “camel porcelain” as a gift. He said that it was a symbol of the spirit of the “the Belt and Road” and hoped that Cao Shui would make more contributions to cultural exchanges between China and Kazakhstan in the future. After the meeting, Urugbek personally escorted Cao Shui to Almaty International Airport, and both sides bid farewell. Cao Shui will go to Istanbul to participate in the 22nd Homer International Poetry Festival and the premiere of Cao Shui’s Turkish poetry collection Listening to the Heartbeat of the World in Istanbul.
