Here’s What People Are Betting Will Happen on the Game of Thrones Finale

With just one episode of Game of Thrones left in the show’s eighth and final season, fans are making their final predictions on who lives, who dies and who will sit on the Seven Kingdoms’ hotly contested Iron Throne — and they’re putting their money down quite literally. (Let’s hope it’s a better investment than Cersei’s decision to shell out for the Golden Company.)

Paddy Power, an online betting site in the U.K., calculated the updated odds on a future ruler — or rulers! — of Westeros and survival rates for the rest of the Thrones cast following the penultimate episode. Things have certainly changed for Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons, following her fiery rampage at King’s Landing: she’s now by far the favorite to die according to popular opinion on Paddy Power, with 1/4 odds for her death, which comes to about 80%.

Of the other still-living fan favorites, Jon Snow has 5/4 odds to die, 4/7 to live; Tyrion Lannister is 6/4 to die, 1/2 to live; and Arya Stark is 5/2 to die, 1/4 to live, making her survival exactly opposite of Dany’s projected death.

As for the final ruler of the Seven Kingdoms? Paddy Power players seem to think Bran Stark will take the crown, with 5/4 odds. He’s followed by his sister Sansa Stark at 5/2 odds, Jon Snow at 4/1, Arya Stark at 6/1 and no one at all with 8/1 odds. (At the very bottom of the list, with 400/1 odds, is good old Hot Pie.)

The final episode of Game of Thrones airs on HBO at 9 p.m. on May 19, at which point we’ll know which bets were dead on, and which were just dead. Because after all, when you play the game of thrones, you win or you die.

The Internet Is Overjoyed for Arthur Character Mr. Ratburn’s Same-Sex Wedding

In the premiere episode of season 22 of beloved (and very meme-worthy) children’s show, Arthur, viewers learned something new about longtime character, Mr. Ratburn.

In the episode, Mr. Ratburn, best known as Arthur’s wry and wise third grade teacher, gets married to his new husband, an aardvark chocolatier named Patrick — a union that Arthur and his friends Buster, Muffy and Francine discover when they crash the wedding.

This isn’t the first time that Arthur has covered same sex unions on the show; in the 2005 spinoff show, Postcards from Buster, a lesbian couple in Vermont was featured during the episode “Sugartime!” The publicly-funded episode sparked criticism from then-Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings, which led to it getting pulled from PBS (although some affiliates continued to air it).

Over a decade later, however, Mr. Ratburn’s big day has been widely celebrated on the Internet, with viewers and fans of the show sending their support via social media.

Some fans were ecstatic for Mr. Ratburn’s official coming out on the show and his new marriage.

It turns out Arthur is more courageous and explicit than Avengers: Endgame when it comes to LGBTQ2 lives and storylines. Congrats Mr. Ratburn! Your move, Marvel…. https://t.co/eq99SerHaC

— Rachel Giese (@rachelagiese) May 13, 2019

While others were invested in the drama of the episode.

This episode was wild too, Arthur and his friends thought he was marrying this pushy woman and tried to break them up only to find out the lady was his sister and Mr. Ratburn was marrying the guy from the chocolate shop they went to earlier in the episode https://t.co/mOXjvjBw34

Others still were amazed that it took 22 seasons for this storyline to emerge.

1) Shoutout to Mr. Ratburn!

2) Arthur has been on TV forever. Season 22?? https://t.co/27W8Xo1NhA

I found out that Mr. Ratburn's getting married to a bloke on Arthur and I say hey (hey) what a wonderful kind of gay.

Lena Headey Says Last Night’s Game of Thrones Was So Perfect for Cersei

Warning: This story contains spoilers for Game of Thrones.

Cersei Lannister’s last scene in the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones ended with the queen dying in the arms of her twin brother and lover Jaime, crushed by the crumbling walls of the Red Keep, as Daenerys, Drogon, and her troops wrecked havoc on King’s Landing.

For Lena Headey, who played the mercurial ruler for entirety of the popular HBO series, however, the relatively tame way Cersei left the Seven Kingdoms in episode five initially gave her “mixed” feelings. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she revealed that she “wanted her to have some big piece or fight with somebody.”

After Headey discussed the scene with co-star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime, they both agreed that Cersei’s final demise was very fitting.

“The more we talked about it the more it seemed like the perfect end for her,” Headey said. “They came into the world together and now they leave together.”

“I think the important thing is that Jaime had a chance at freedom [with Brienne] and finally liberated himself from Cersei, which I think the audience will be thrilled about,” Headey said. “I think the biggest surprise is he came back for her. Cersei realizes just how she loves him and just how much he loves her. It’s the most authentic connection she’s ever had. Ultimately they belong together.”

In fact, Headey said she found closure in Cersei and Jaime’s moment together before the Red Keep tumbles.

“It’s maybe the first time that Cersei has been at peace.”

It Looks Like The Simpsons Totally Called That Fiery Game of Thrones Plot Twist

By now, we should be used to The Simpsons predicting the future. But that doesn’t mean it’s any less surprising when the long-running cartoon once again seems to have preempted an unexpected twist. This time, it’s about the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones.

In episode five of Game of Thrones‘s eighth and final season, Daenerys Targaryen and her army lay siege on Queen Cersei and King’s Landing. But just when it seems Daenerys, her dragon, her Unsullied and the motley crew of Northerners she’s assembled have handily won the battle against the Lannister forces and the mercenary Golden Company, Daenerys seems to flip a switch to Mad Queen status. She appears to ignore surrender, instead going on a rampage and laying fiery waste to all of King’s Landing, decimating the civilian population that has taken refuge in the city.

This came as something of a surprise to many viewers, who are used to Dany’s benevolence to innocents; after all, this is the Breaker of Chains, who murdered slavers but freed the enslaved. (Then again, Dany has demonstrated she had a thirst for vengeance on those who would dare to cross her, an impulse often tempered by her more even-keeled advisors.)

But as it turns out, it looks like The Simpsons guessed at this development all along — or at least, hinted at Drogon‘s unchecked fiery ways. In an episode of the show from 2017 called “The Serfsons,” Homer, Marge and the gang are deposited in an alternate fantasy universe of “Springfieldia.” At the end of the episode, a fire-breathing dragon wreaks havoc on the town. Unfortunately for Thrones fans who wanted better for Dany and King’s Landing, a vengeful dragon is pretty much exactly how things are unfolding on the HBO series as well.

Move Over Coffee Cup. Fans Think Jaime Lannister Grows His Right Hand Back in This Game of Thrones Photo

In its eighth and final season, it appears that Game of Thrones is having its fair share of continuity errors.

Last week, eagle-eyed viewers of the HBO series spotted a rogue coffee cup in a pivotal scene in Winterfell and on Sunday night, some sharp fans noticed that Jaime Lannister’s real hand appeared to have grown back in place of the golden one he got after it was cut off in Season 3, in a promotional still image for episode 5, season 8, “The Bells.”

While the mistake did not appear in the actual episode, which is the penultimate one of both the season and series, it did show up in a promotional image that showed Jaime hugging Cersei, his real right hand, free from a golden prosthetic, clearly visible.

For many of the fans, such a noticeable apparent gaffe was a point of humor, a strong contrast to the end that met Jaime and Cersei, one of the show’s most controversial and complicated relationships.

Many fans were amazed by the error given the importance of Jaime’s hand to his character’s development over the course of five seasons.

Will there be any more gaffes before we bid farewell to Game of Thrones? With a final episode to close the season and the series, viewers will just have to tune in next week to find out.

HBO did not respond to TIME’s request for comment on this story.

Yes, a Quarterback Definitely Made a Cameo on Game of Thrones

The penultimate episode of Game of Thrones featured fire, brimstone, and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

On Sunday night, before the episode aired, the football star confirmed his appearance in an Instagram post that he captioned, “It was just for a few seconds, but I’ll always be thankful to have been on the penultimate episode of @gameofthrones”. The Green Bay Packers tweeted out a message to fans, too.

The football star’s cameo in the show’s final season had become what ESPN called “one of the worst kept secrets in television.” The quarterback is a long-time fan of the show who filmed a promo for the series, where he introduced himself as “Lord Aaron of House Rodgers of Greenwater Bay, the true King in the North.” tweeted about the “24-hour rule,” the standard of TV etiquette that prevents fans from discussing spoilers about Game of Thrones for at least a day for anyone watching on delay. He also added in a hashtag that “Episode 5 should be good.”

To that end, he was careful to avoid spoilers about the fifth episode of the show’s final season. “I have a bit of inside information about who is alive in one of the episodes, but I’ll share that down the line,” Rodgers told reporters on April 23, according to ESPN.

The cameo had been a longtime dream of the athlete, who hinted at a possible appearance on the Dan Patrick Show last year, but would neither “confirm nor deny” the cameo at the time. However, when Patrick asked him what role he would like to play on the show, Rodgers said he wanted “to be killed or in one of the steamy scenes for sure.” Last night, he got his wish with fans spotting him in the lineup of archers in King’s Landing.

“This Is An Actual Crisis.” John Oliver and Bill Nye Talk Climate Change on Last Week Tonight

On Sunday night’s episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver joined the growing chorus of voices pointing out that we aren’t doing enough to save our planet.

Oliver sounded the alarm in light of a new report on climate change from the United Nations that warns that lasting change is coming to the planet as soon as 2040. “That’s just 21 years from now,” Oliver pointed out. “By that point, Finn Wolfhard will only be 37, Ariana Grande will only be 46, and Lou Dobbs will only be dead for 30 years.”

To avoid the consequences, unprecedented climate-saving steps need to be taken around the world. In the U.S. the Green New Deal is meant to kickstart the conversation about what the country can do to save the planet. As Oliver noted, the Green New Deal is a nonbinding resolution that sets out goals like net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, moving towards clean energy, and creating jobs.

“The whole Green New Deal is just 14 pages long,” Oliver noted. “That is seven pages shorter than the menu for the Cheesecake Factory.”

The Senate voted down the Green New Deal six weeks ago, but Oliver noted that the issue is very much on people’s minds. Because the potential legislation stemming from it could be complex, Oliver pulled out one area to focus on—specifically, carbon pricing, or how much it costs to release carbon, the largest source of greenhouse gas, into the air.

Currently, it’s free to release carbon, but taxing it could cut emissions. To help deconstruct carbon pricing, Oliver brought in an expert—Bill Nye, the Science Guy—who explained that “when something costs more, people release less of it.” In the U.K. carbon pricing caused carbon emissions to drop to levels not seen since the 1800s a.k.a. “before Mary Poppins danced with Burt the chimney sweep.”

While the Green New Deal has gotten people to start talking, according to Oliver that is not going to be enough. To drive home the message, Nye returned with a “gritty reboot” of his friendly science guy message, lighting a globe on fire to show that the planet really is in a state of emergency. “You’re adults now, and this is an actual crisis,” said Bill Nye. “Safety glasses off, motherf—-ers.”

Correction, May 13

The original version of this story misstated what John Oliver said about the length of the Green New Deal. He said it was “14 pages long,” not “40 pages long.”

Meghan Markle Just Shared the Most Adorable Picture of Royal Baby Archie for Mother’s Day

Royal fans, rejoice.

An adorable new photo of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and her royal baby are here. Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is already fit to be the star of his parents’ Instagram page.

The photo, shared Sunday on the Sussex Instagram account honors mothers around the world for Mother’s Day while celebrating the Duchess herself, who experienced the holiday for the first time as a new mother this year.

The single picture shows royal baby Archie’s tiny feet in his mother’s hand.

“Paying tribute to all mothers today — past, present, mothers-to-be and those lost but forever remembered,” the caption said. “We honour and celebrate each and every one of you.”

The post also included a quote from “lands,” a poem by Nayyirah Waheed published in her 2013 collection, salt. “My mother was my first country; the first place I ever lived,” the quote says.

There’s also a poignant tie to Archie’s late paternal grandmother, Princess Diana, in this Mother’s Day post. The Duchess of Sussex and her son posed in front of forget-me-nots, the favorite flower of the Princess of Wales, who died in 1997.

At her wedding to Prince Harry last year, the Duchess included the flowers in her bouquet. “The couple specifically chose them to be included in Ms. Markle’s bouquet to honour the memory of the late Princess on this special day,” Kensington Palace said in a statement at the time.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex announced their first son was born on Monday, May 6, at 5:26 a.m. local time. The baby name announcement for the seven-pound, three-ounce royal baby boy also arrived on Instagram on Wednesday, hours after the Sussex family stepped out for a photo call with the new arrival.

Though the new Meghan Markle baby picture doesn’t show Archie’s face, the maternal bond the pair share is clear.

Jimmy Kimmel Proves Celebs Get Awkward Texts From Their Moms Just Like Everyone

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, Jimmy Kimmel decided to once again offer a twist on his infamous Mean Tweets segments and have celebrities read a selection of heartfelt, head-scratching and downright odd texts sent by their mothers.

“Feather, teamwork when you are cohabbing makes the dream work,” Katy Perry shared from her phone, reading off a mother’s long, non-punctuated text from her mom about how to successfully live with a significant other. (Highlight: “the man is the head but the woman is the neck that turns the head.”)

Kourtney Kardashian confessed that she’d been ignoring a series of texts from her “momager” Kris Jenner, while singer Billie Eilish’s mom told her in no uncertain terms to “go the duck to sleep!!!!!!”

Catastrophe star Rob Delaney showed off his mother’s crude adventures with autocorrect, Pink’s mother outed herself as a “stoner”, and Stranger Things star David Harbour revealed his mom’s desperate desire for freebies: “David love you lots Will you send me anything you can find for free?????? thank you so much–thank you. pens, key chains Are you having fun?? Love you love you. Mom.”

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch star Kiernan Shipka, meanwhile, received an odd text from her mom that just read: “Jared Leto is 47 I’m going vegan”.

And then there’s this from Regina Hall’s mom: “Jt concert tix not going to good job CCD Kjust.can’t tecxstill trying byb love you you”. While the text was incomprehensible, one thing that’s clear is that she loves her daughter — which is the sign of a good mom text, after all.
